Nepal – Two Years After the Devastating Earthquakes

After suffering two devastating earthquakes in April and May of 2015, the people of Nepal have been in even more desperate straits.  The aftermath revealed 9,000 lost lives; 602,257 destroyed homes, with damage to 185,099 homes, according to the Government of Nepal, and the destruction of 35,000 classrooms that left one million children without schooling

In the Small World’s working communities of the lower Solukhumbu District alone, 1,045 classrooms were destroyed and hundreds of children could not return to schools.

Immediately after the earthquakes, The Small World provided relief support: traps for shelter, drinking water, and foods benefiting nearly 17,000 victims. We also built twenty (20) temporary learning centers in Solukhumbu to keep children in school.

We are currently engaged in the construction of eighteen (18) classrooms. Our goal is to continue to build one hundred (100) classrooms within 3 years, that is, by 2018, to benefit over 5,000 children.

Here is a fact sheet of The Small World’s immediate earthquake relief and response made possible together with all of our generous donors, partners and friends.
